Romania has one of the highest Caesarian section rates in Europe. The world Health Organisation recommends that C-sections shouldn't represent more than 15% of all births in a country. In 2013, more than 50% of babies were delivered trough C-section. Due to a long history of communism and the recent development of a private healthcare system, Romanian women find it safer and more comfortable to give birth through surgery.  I've spent a year documenting hospitalised natural birth and home birth in Bucharest, trying to document the anti-mainstream current, the activity of the few midwives and doctors supporting women to give birth naturally.
